PGA Tour Season Opener Delayed For Third Straight Day
The first round of the PGA Tour Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii, today was postponed for a third consecutive day, as wind gusts were "so strong that rules officials had a hard time walking." The PGA Tour's goal "was to play 18 holes -- hopefully -- followed by 36 holes on Monday," but there also is the "prospect of a Tuesday finish." TV coverage also "became a factor," as the tour "struggled to balance proper coverage" of the TOC and the Sony Open, which starts Thursday in Honolulu (AP, 1/6). This weekend's event marks the beginning of what some players see as "a trying season" (N.Y. TIMES, 1/6).
