Bill Friday Remembered For Role With Knight Commission
Former Univ. of North Carolina system President Bill Friday died on Friday at the age of 92, and will be remembered for his role in "trying to start" debates over the role of athletics on college campuses "decades ago when no one wanted to listen." Friday in '89 helped to form and co-Chaired the Knight Commission (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 10/13).
In one of his final interviews, Friday talked to the WASHINGTON POST earlier this month about the state of intercollegiate athletes, lamenting, “We have really reached a point where there is no control, in some spots."
