NBCU's Peacock Service Launches Widely With Some Live Sports

NBCU's Peacock streaming service launches widely today, employing a tiered model that includes a "free ad-supported version," $4.99 Peacock Premium and $9.99 ad-free version of Premium. The service's sports offerings "will probably get more interesting as live sports return." But at launch, it does include live EPL games, "one of the [few] live sports happening now." There are also sports documentaries on offer like “Dream Team” and “Miracle on Ice: 40th Anniversary” (CNBC.com, 7/14). In the future, it will feature "live sports such as" coverage of golf's U.S. Open and an NFL wild card playoff game (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 7/15).

Peacock launched in Comcast homes in April and is now available on "Apple and Google platforms, Microsoft’s Xbox, Vizio and LG smart TVs, Cox Contour and, starting next week, Sony PlayStation." Talks are "ongoing with major distributors like Amazon Fire and Roku, but those two top platforms are still on the sidelines as of now" (DEADLINE.com, 7/14).
