BetMGM-Sportradar Extension Includes Various Streaming Rights

Sportsbook BetMGM and data provider Sportradar today will announce an extension through '26 that will include rights to stream live video from events outside the U.S., such as Bundesliga, Korean baseball, ITF tennis and other properties that have seen increased handle during the pandemic. Financial terms were not disclosed. Streaming video has become an increasingly attractive feature for sportsbook sites, which offer in-app video largely to improve the experience for bettors who place in-play wagers as events unfold.

Though leagues generally do not offer live video for sale to sportsbooks in their own countries, some increasingly are considering it. The NHL earlier this year began testing allowing sportsbooks to stream a handful of out-of-market games some nights, not including games telecast nationally.

Sportradar VP/U.S. Sales & Gaming Neale Deeley said, “In a world of streaming for betting operators, domestic content is unusual. Clearly, we would look to have domestic U.S. pro leagues as part of the (streaming video) portfolio. Time will tell as to whether that actually happens. It’s certainly something we’d be interested in and we know our customers would be interested in it as well.” Sportradar’s portfolio of rights available to U.S. bookmakers includes 19 properties, all of them based abroad. Some of those are not sanctioned for betting in all states.
