Athletes First Leads Agencies With Eight Players In First Round

Athletes First led all agencies with eight players taken in the first round of the NFL Draft, ending CAA’s four-year run as first-round leader. The agency’s night was highlighted by No. 6 pick Justin Herbert (Chargers) and No. 8 pick Isaiah Simmons (Cardinals). AF, Roc Nation Sports and Klutch Sports Group -- which acquired Damarius Bilbo’s Revolution Sports in January -- tied with two players represented in the top 10. There were 15 different agencies to represent players picked in the first round, down from 17 last year. Check out today’s issue of THE DAILY for a complete rundown of agents and agencies repping first-round picks.

The L.A. TIMES’ Sam Farmer detailed that Leigh Steinberg might have had the “craziest day” of anyone associated with the draft. He began the day in his home base of L.A. before “cobbling together a collection of empty commercial flights” and watching the start of the event with Tua Tagovailoa in Gadsden, Ala. After Tagovailoa was taken by the Dolphins with the No. 5 pick, Steinberg “took a private flight to Fort Lauderdale” to be with Jerry Jeudy, who was taken 10 picks later by the Broncos.
