Activision Blizzard Unveils Structure For Call Of Duty League

Activision Blizzard Esports' new franchised/geo-located Call of Duty League this morning is revealing its structure, which will include every team hosting at least two homestands, plus new amateur competitions meant to grow the game at the grassroots level. For the Call of Duty League, which will consist of 12 teams from around North America and London, the season will start in early ‘20 and consist of 26 matches over 28 weeks. Teams will play 5-on-5 with the "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" game on PS4.

Similar to the Overwatch League, each homestand event will feature several teams competing over two days, including the host city in each case. The OWL did not start hosting homestands until its third season, but many owners in the CDL also own an OWL team, a fact that gave Activision Blizzard confidence the CDL can start hosting events right away. The league also is announcing two amateur circuits called Call of Duty Challengers and Call of Duty City Circuit meant to foster a ladder system toward the premier series.
