CCTV Will Not Broadcast This Week's NBA China Games
Chinese state media outlet CCTV "will not broadcast the upcoming NBA China Games" featuring Nets-Lakers Thursday and Saturday. The move is "in response to the NBA's stance on the ongoing fallout" over Rockets GM Daryl Morey's tweet supporting Hong Kong protesters. After NBA Commissioner Adam Silver's response to the controversy, CCTV said that it is "'strongly dissatisfied' and opposed to Silver's claim." The channel also said it would "immediately investigate all cooperation and exchanges involving the NBA" (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST, 10/8).
Meanwhile, the Chinese government today canceled an event "just hours before the Nets players were scheduled to take part in an NBA Cares event at the New World Experimental School in Shanghai." It was to be a "dedication ceremony for the new NBA Cares Learn and Play Center." There was "no explanation given to the media" for the cancellation. It is "unclear whether the Lakers’ NBA Cares event Wednesday will be impacted" (N.Y. POST, 10/8).
