Fans Deal With Rain, High Humidity For Coke Zero At Daytona

Justin Haley yesterday won the weather-shortened Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero Sugar 400, which made its "last July run -- a day later than planned -- before moving to late August next year." An estimated crowd of 30,000 watched the race, originally scheduled for Saturday, at Daytona Int'l Speedway (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 7/8). Nearly 2.3 inches of rain fell in Daytona Beach "over 36 hours beginning Friday afternoon and into Saturday night," which "turned grassy areas in the track’s infield into swampy bogs." The high humidity gave fans a "bonus sauna treatment to go with their tickets," which led to "many empty seats" (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 7/8).
