Orioles-Nationals Media-Rights Dispute Returns To MLB Panel
MLB’s Revenue Sharing Definitions Committee today will begin to re-hear of the ongoing MASN media-rights dispute between the Nationals and Orioles, returning the matter to the league’s internal arbitration panel. This follows a split decision last year by the appellate division of the New York Supreme Court in which the court affirmed a lower court ruling vacating a prior RSDC decision for the Nationals, while also voting to return the dispute to the league body.
Since the original RSDC hearing, the panel’s membership has changed and now is comprised of Brewers Owner Mark Attanasio, Blue Jays President & CEO Mark Shapiro and Mariners President & CEO Kevin Mather. Should there be an issue in the new proceedings, the Orioles-controlled MASN will have the right to appeal to the New York Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court.
