Fox Ups The Ante In Altice Dispute With New Crop Of Ads
Fox ratcheted up its public carriage battle with Altice today, taking out full-page ads in the N.Y. Post and Wall Street Journal to go along with plans to run a local spot in N.Y. during “TNF” on WNYW-Fox. Fox’ deal with Altice, which runs Optimum Sports in N.Y., ends this weekend, and Fox is warning that its broadcast channel, FS1, FS2 and some RSNs may go dark on Optimum systems. Both sides are negotiating but are said to still be far apart.
The N.Y. Post ad carries a picture of three NFL Giants players and reads, “Your Fox Sports on Optimum could get sacked,” and “It could be your last weekend with Fox 5.” The Journal ad reads, “Optimum is at it again. Optimum customers, all you favorite Fox shows and sports could be gone.” That ad carries nine pictures of Fox programming -- four of which are sports: Yankees, Giants, Jets and the Univ. of Oklahoma.
