Jets, Players Coalition Demand Criminal Justice Reform In N.Y.

Members of The Players Coalition in conjunction with the NFL Jets pen an opinion piece in the N.Y. DAILY NEWS calling for criminal justice reform. The piece bears the names of Jets Chair & CEO Christopher Johnson, team President Neil Glat, OT Kelvin Beachum, QB Josh McCown, Saints LB Demario Davis and former NFLer Anquan Boldin.

It reads in part, "We have seen the injustices inflicted on communities impacted by a broken criminal justice system. We have witnessed firsthand how New York’s broken bail, discovery, and speedy trial rules keep people locked up for months pretrial, unable to make bail, with no meaningful hope of having a speedy trial and no access to critical evidence in their cases. ... We have the opportunity to pass meaningful bail reform that will eliminate money bail and all pretrial detention for misdemeanors and nonviolent felony charges and ensure that jail is only used as a last resort" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/27).
