Minor Leaguers Likely To Lose Wage Rights Under Spending Bill

Minor league baseball players could soon be subject to an "exemption to the federal minimum wage and overtime laws" under provisions included in the $1.3T omnibus spending bill that "must be signed" today to prevent a government shutdown. The measure, dubbed the "Save America's Pastime Act" would "basically take away minimum wage rights" for MiLB players. That would also "likely squash the lawsuits" against MLB "seeking a living wage" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/23). The House approved the spending bill yesterday, and the legislation "appears likely to be approved by the Senate and signed by President Trump" (AP, 3/22).
