MLS BOG Considering Expansion; Announcement Expected Next Week

The MLS BOG today is "set to discuss expansion at an all-day meeting" in N.Y., with a decision on selections expected "either at the meeting or soon after." Formal announcements of the two expansion choices are expected from Dec. 18-21. MLS Commissioner Don Garber has "offered few clues on the decision" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 12/14). The league's expansion committee on Dec. 6 heard presentations from the four bid cities, and its recommendation could be an "influential piece of the expansion puzzle." The committee consists of owners Jonathan Kraft (Revolution), Cliff Illig (Sporting KC), Bill McGuire (Minnesota United), Andrew Hauptman (Fire), Jay Sugarman (Union) and Joe Roth (Sounders) (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 12/14).
