Tigers To Retire Numbers Of Baseball HOFers-Elect Trammell, Morris

The Tigers are "going to retire" the numbers of former players Alan Trammell and Jack Morris, who last night were elected to the Baseball HOF. The Tigers in a statement confirmed that they "will retire Trammell's No. 3 and Morris' No. 47 during an August ceremony." They will be the "seventh and eighth Tigers numbers to be retired." Both were on the Tigers' '84 World Series-winning team (DETROIT NEWS, 12/11). 

Meanwhile, for a seventh time since becoming eligible, late MLBPA Exec Dir Marvin Miller "couldn't achieve the necessary support for enshrinement." Miller this time "only received seven votes" from the 16 members of the Modern Baseball Era Committee, or 43.8% (FORBES.com, 12/10).
