Georgia Dome Imploded, Ending Atlanta Venue's 25-Year Run
The Georgia Dome "came down in a ball of dust" this morning in an implosion "bringing down an Atlanta institution of the last 25 years." There were "no immediate reports of damage to nearby structures" as the arena was demolished. The Falcons' and Atlanta United's new Mercedes-Benz Stadium "stands about 80 feet from the Georgia Dome" site (AJC.com, 11/20).
SEC Network's Tony Barnhart: "Goodbye Georgia Dome. Thanks for the memories." Former NFLer Geoff Schwartz: "It feels weird that two stadiums (Georgia Dome and Giants Stadium) I’ve played in have been knocked down. Makes me feel old." ESPN's Bomani Jones: "We don't give enough credit to whoever decided to change the outside color scheme to black/red after the inexplicable colors of the '90s. made no sense."
