Pawtucket City Council To Hold Special Meeting On PawSox Ballpark

The Pawtucket City Council tonight will meet on the prospects of a new ballpark for the Triple-A Int'l League Red Sox, and it is "unclear whether the proposal even has majority support" in the Council. The special meeting comes in response to Rhode Island Senate Finance Committee questions about "whether it supports pending state legislation for the city and state to commit" $38M toward a new venue on the site of the Apex department store. The Council "expects to vote" on a resolution urging the General Assembly to authorize Pawtucket to bond up to $15M in ballpark costs (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 10/17).
