City Of Memphis Giving Millions In Taxes Back To NBA Players

The city of Memphis is "about to turn over" $2.38M to "more than 900 pro basketball players" as part of a '15 settlement regarding Tennessee's "jock tax." City CFO Brian Collins said that Memphis "will return its portion of the money ... within the next three or four weeks." The state's General Assembly voted in '14 to repeal the tax, "effective immediately for hockey players" and taking effect tomorrow for basketball players (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 5/31).
