MLS Work Stoppage Looms As Talks In DC Yield Little Progress

MLS labor talks in DC "could continue" today, as the league yesterday "careened toward the first work stoppage in its 20-year history." MLS and the MLSPU yesterday "appeared to make little progress" toward a new CBA, and the sides "remained locked in discussions with federal mediators." Yesterday marked the final day of a three-day session. A source said, “It seems like (the owners) are giving up nothing of substance" (WASHINGTON POST, 3/4).

There have been reports that a "vote to strike by the players could come" by today (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 3/4). Today also could bring the "first indication of whether an agreement is close." The Fire are "scheduled to leave Chicago" today for their opener in L.A., but the club "will likely change those plans if no deal is at hand" (L.A. TIMES, 3/4). The Fire players are reportedly "en route to O'Hare" (TWITTER.com, 3/4).
