No Major Incidents To Date Around Vans U.S. Open Of Surfing

Local police said that there have been "no major problems" associated with the Vans U.S. Open Of Surfing in Huntington Beach, Calif. This comes "a year after a melee broke out on the final day" of the '13 event. This year's competition began Saturday and runs through Sunday, Aug. 3 (L.A. TIMES, 7/28). One area teen was arrested for "terrorist threats" Friday after police in N.Y. noticed a "post that referenced harming the crowd." Huntington Beach police were tipped off by the NYPD, which was "scanning online posts for the upcoming U.S. Open of Tennis" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 7/27).
