Jason Collins Jerseys Go On Sale Today, With Demand Already High

Jason Collins No. 98 Nets jerseys go on sale today at the NBA Store in Manhattan and via the league's online store. Also, T-shirts with Collins’ name "will be available only online." When the newly-signed C played in Sunday's game against the Lakers, he wore No. 46 because the Nets "had to resort to a generic jersey the team travels with in case of emergencies." NBA Senior VP/Licensing & Business Affairs Vicky Picca "used the word 'unprecedented' Monday to describe the inquiries from people interested in buying something with Collins’s name on it" (N.Y. TIMES, 2/25).

Collins signed a 10-day contract with the Nets on Sunday, and ESPN's Keith Olbermann said, "For those intending to jump on the merchandise, hopefully he signs a new deal and is still with the team by the time your order arrives" ("Olbermann," ESPN2, 2/24).
