Indiana Univ. Game Postponed After Beam Falls In Assembly Hall

Last night's scheduled Iowa-Indiana men's basketball game was postponed "after a piece of metal fell from the ceiling and damaged seats at Assembly Hall" hours before tipoff time. No makeup date has been announced. Three hours after announcing the postponement, Indiana AD Fred Glass said that "the teams could have played the game, but only if fans were kept out" (ESPN.com, 2/18). Repairs were scheduled to begin this morning (IBJ.com, 2/18).

An ESPN crew preparing to televise the game "caught video of the beam crashing into a seat," and it "spread quickly on social media." Glass said that tonight's home women's basketball game against Michigan "will go on as scheduled." The Pacers "offered Bankers Life Fieldhouse" tonight for both the men's and women's game, but Glass said that the "logistical challenges of playing in Indianapolis and uncertainty about Assembly Hall's availability prompted IU to decline the offer" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 2/19).
