IOC's Thomas Bach To Address U.N., Call For Olympic Truce
IOC President Thomas Bach today will address the U.N. to "ask for an Olympic truce – a cessation of all hostility" – during the '14 Sochi Games from Feb. 7-23. The proposed truce "will be introduced by the Russian Federation on behalf of the IOC." Bach also is "expected to talk about the futility of Olympic boycotts." The tradition of asking for a truce dates back to the ancient Olympics and was "reintroduced to the Modern Games" in '92 (L.A. TIMES, 11/6).
