Astrodome Expected To Be Demolished After Bond Measure Fails
A $217M bond measure to fund redevelopment of the Astrodome yesterday "failed by several percentage points" in Harris County (Texas). The voters' decision is "expected to doom it to the wrecking ball." County Judge Ed Emmett said, "We're going to have to do something quick. We can't allow the once-proud Dome to sit like a rusting ship in the middle of a parking lot" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 11/6).
Meanwhile, L.A. TIMES architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne wrote under the header, "Why The Astrodome Is Worth Saving" (LATIMES.com, 11/5).
