Haslam Family Selling Double-A Team In Knoxville To Randy Boyd
An ownership group led by the Haslam family "plans to sell" the Double-A Southern League Tennessee Smokies to Knoxville businessman Randy Boyd, who is "hoping to close the deal within the next two weeks." Bill Haslam and Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam III "will retain a security interest" in the team. Jimmy Haslam said the sale of the Smokies is "absolutley not" related to Pilot Flying J's legal troubles. He added, "It does have something to do with Cleveland in that we're obviously going to be spending more time there" (KNOXVILLE NEWS-SENTINEL, 6/28).
