Laugh Track....Coast To Coast

Broadcaster Bob Costas appeared on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel” last night with host Jimmy Kimmel noting when you hear Costas’ name “you know you’ve tuned into a serious sporting event.” Kimmel added, “I think he even hosted a ‘Real Housewives’ reunion show once.” Costas noted Rangers P Yu Darvish pitched within one out of a perfect game against the Astros on Tuesday and said, “Now maybe that deserves an asterisk because the present Houston Astros roster may not be exactly of Major League quality.” Costas said of broadcasting a game with the possibility of a perfect game or a no-hitter, “It used to be, not that long ago, that a broadcaster was supposed to come up with every euphemism he could think of but never say the guy has a no-hitter or a perfect game going because that would jinx it. But now we’re in a different era and on the Major League Baseball Network, they would interrupt every other pitch in the game we were doing and a giant, neon sign would flash ‘Perfect Game Alert’ and then we’d go back to the studio.” Kimmel added, “And then, sure enough, they jinxed it” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 4/3).

NBC’s Jay Leno: “Today, I accepted a new position. I am going be the head basketball coach at Rutgers University. … Monday was the official start of baseball season. In fact, for a minute at Yankee Stadium I thought it was old-timer’s day, turns out it was just the Yankees starting lineup. The Miami Dolphins unveiled their new team logo, a dolphin without a helmet on which is better. It looks stupid with the helmet on before, didn’t it? And not to be outdone, the New York Jets unveiled their new logo: An offense without a quarterback” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 4/3).
