Day One Of NFL Free Agency: Big Deals Equate To "Great Theater"

NFL free agency began at 4:00pm ET yesterday, and there was a "dizzying cascade of deals" on Day One, highlighted by the Dolphins and Browns making major acquisitions. NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal writes, "This was great theater, especially if you like watching money being spent." Rosenthal: "It's safe to say the NFL never will go back to the midnight start time of free agency. ... The league might want to [consider] moving free agency's opening day into primetime" (NFL.com, 3/12).

USA TODAY's Jarrett Bell writes, "The flurry of moves on Day 1 was stunning. I don't recall the league's new year ever getting off the ground with such velocity, with so many transactions" (USATODAY.com, 3/12). SI.com's Don Banks: "The start of free agency has morphed into Groundhog Day over the years, with only the names and the size of contracts changing. ... Some teams immediately look like big winners. Some teams immediately look like big losers. ... It's the immediate part that gets us all into trouble every time" (SI.com, 3/12).

There are a number of analysts and talking heads giving their opinions on the NFL free agency period. Who stands out, for better or worse? Let us know as you watch over the next few days. Also, check out the open-mic mix-up on NFL Network last night.
