Tom Connors, Singer Of "The Hockey Song," Dies At Age 77
Canadian country-folk singer Tom Connors, whose songs are a part of hockey culture, has died at the age of 77, his promoter announced yesterday. "The Hockey Song" is played at "arenas around North America," and the Maple Leafs play at least three of his songs at every home game at Air Canada Centre. Maple Leafs fans "took to their feet" at last night's game as "The Hockey Song" was played following an announcement of Connors' death. The NHL tweeted, "Sad to hear that legendary Canadian Stompin' Tom Connors has passed. His legacy lives on in arenas" (AP, 3/7).
