FIFA To Use Goal-Line Tech At '14 World Cup; Four Systems Vying
FIFA today committed to "using goal-line technology" at the '14 World Cup in Brazil, "and could have four system competing for selections." The decision was "expected" once FIFA's rule-making panel, IFAB, "decided last July to approve goal-line technology at competitive matches." The Hawk-Eye and GoalRef systems are expected to compete, though "two competitors are making late entries." The two unidentified German-made systems "have completed tests and could soon be approved for use" (AP, 2/19).
