Giants Sweep Tigers For Second World Series Title In Three Years

The Giants won their second World Series in three years last night, completing a sweep of the Tigers in Detroit. S.F. Mayor Ed Lee said that a parade in the team's honor "will be held Wednesday" at 11:00am PT. It will begin "at the foot of Market Street and move to Civic Center Plaza" (SFGATE.com, 10/29).

The Morning Buzz offers today's headlines:

S.F. Chronicle (front page): "S.F. Giants Fans Delirious With Joy"
Detroit Free Press: "Winter Comes Too Early For Verlander, Tigers"
Detroit News (front page): "Swept Away"
USA Today: "Yankees Must Envy Giants"
ESPN.com: "This Was A Giant Surprise"
SI.com: "The Giants Win The Series! The Giants Win The Series!"

Thousands of fans crowded into the S.F. Civic Center Plaza last night to "watch the Giants clinch the World Series on a hastily erected Jumbotron" (L.A. TIMES, 10/29). The crowd of some 2,000 fans "grew in numbers and volume throughout the chilly and foggy night" (AP, 10/29).

Pam Baer, the wife of Giants President Larry Baer, during the postgame celebration was spotted holding a champagne bucket that featured the words: "World Series Champion 2012 Detroit Tigers." A Tigers logo was "interlaced with an image of the championship trophy" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 10/29).

CSNBAYAREA.com's Ray Ratto writes the Giants last night "became one of the genuinely special operations of the past 40 years," as only four other teams in that period "won multiple World Series so close together." The S.F. CHRONICLE's Scott Ostler writes if the Giants "have a poster child for childishness and good fun," it is 3B Pablo Sandoval, the World Series MVP. ESPN.com's David Schoenfeld writes Giants GM Brian Sabean is "a guy who sabermetric analysts have never given his full due."
