Seattle City Council Approves Arena Deal, $200M In Bond Funding

The Seattle City Council yesterday by a 6-2 margin approved an agreement with investor Chris Hansen to build an NHL- and NBA-ready arena with up to $200M in public bonds. A "majority of the council said the tax revenues from a new arena would help address two persistent problems: how to protect Port of Seattle operations and industrial lands near the proposed arena and what the future of Seattle Center will be." The deal now heads to the Metropolitan King County Council, with a vote expected next month (SEATTLE TIMES, 9/25).
