The Metropolitan King County Council could vote as early as next week "on a proposal to invest up to $80 million to build a sports arena in Seattle." Budget Chair Joe McDermott yesterday pushed for the proposal "to move from his oversight committee to the full council for its action" (SEATTLE TIMES, 7/24).

After two months of "persistently damp weather, including the wettest June on record," the U.K. is "set to enjoy the hottest temperatures of the year this week" (London TELEGRAPH, 7/24).

The Heat will open the season at home against the Celtics and will host the Thunder in a Christmas Day NBA Finals rematch, according to sources "who have seen the league's tentative schedule due to be released this week" (MIAMI HERALD, 7/24).

The '12 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, which featured a record 24 teams participating, resulted in a 20% increase in attendance over the previous event in '10 (NBA).
