Federal Mediators To Oversee Labor Talks Between NFL, Referees
This morning, the FMCS announced that it has named FMCS Deputy Director Scot Beckenbaugh and Commissioner Peter Donatello to assist the NFL and the NFLRA in their negotiations for a new CBA. The current CBA for the 121 referees and officials who officiate NFL games expires on May 31. FMCS Director George Cohen yesterday announced, "The NFLRA and the NFL have accepted an offer from the FMCS to assist them in the negotiations for a successor collective bargaining agreement. The parties will be participating in the meeting(s) under the auspices of FMCS mediators."
NFL Senior VP/PR Greg Aiello declined comment on the FMCS' involvement in the talks with the referees in an email, saying "The announcement by the FMCS speaks for itself." NFLRA officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
