EPL Will Offer 16 More Live Matches In Next TV Rights Package

The EPL announced it will offer an additional 16 games to be “screened live from the start of the 2013-14 season” as part of its next TV rights package, bringing the total of live matches to 154 per season. The current deal sees Sky Sports and ESPN share 138 matches. The games “will be split into seven packages.” All packages will be “sold to the highest bidder, but no single buyer will be allowed to acquire more than 116 matches.” Experts are “predicting new entrants to the market,” possibly including Al Jazeera (LONDON TIMES, 5/4).
