AT&T Sports Facilities & Franchises Conference Underway In N.J.

The 11th annual AT&T Sports Facilities & Franchises got underway today at the W Hoboken in Hoboken, N.J., with a panel discussion entitled "The Presidents’ Perspective on Franchise and Facility Management," which included former Nationals President Stan Kasten, Cubs President Crane Kenney, Devils Arena Entertainment President Rich Krezwick, Jazz President & COO Randy Rigby and Bobcats President & COO Fred Whitfield. The morning session will also include panel discussions on the financial landscape of teams and facilities and non-gameday revenue opportunities.

The inaugural SBJ/SBD Ticketing Symposium wrapped up yesterday afternoon with the “Examining Ticket Resale Opportunities” panel, during which Pirates Senior Dir of Ticket Sales & Service Chris Zaber said that all teams want to have some say in how their tickets are sold in secondary markets, but finding the correct balance is difficult. "From what we've been able to see, 10% of our seats are being moved in the secondary market," Zaber said. Falcons VP/Sales Dave Cohen said teams should try and mine data from the secondary market to better position their own sales, but that secondary sellers "take away [tickets] from the guy on the street selling a ticket that you don't know is legit." StubHub President Chris Tsakalakis argued his company has a major leg up on teams who try to oversee secondary sales themselves, and that StubHub has increased sales after taking over team-run secondary ticket operations.

More than 100 of the attendees from yesterday's ticketing symposium were on hand last night for a networking reception hosted by the Devils at the Wicked Wolf in Hoboken. Those present included Devils Owner Jeff Vanderbeek, CMO and Senior VP/Ticket Sales & Marketing Michael Williams, Rich Krezwick and several former players. The team also brought its cheerleaders, a cake provided by TLC's "Cake Boss" and elements of the Devils Army fan initiative, including a branded army truck.
