Anaheim Considers Honda Center Upgrades As Kings' Deadline Nears

The Anaheim City Council today will hold a hearing to consider funding improvements at Honda Center, marking the "first official sign that the city is indeed trying to lure" the NBA Kings. The council will decide whether to postpone the topic until the next regular City Council meeting on April 12. The Kings have set an April 18 deadline to "decide whether to leave Sacramento." The upgrades under consideration "may be the improvements" cited by former city official Greg Smith, who in '08 said Honda Center would need to be "NBA-ready" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 3/19).

A public-hearing notice indicates that if the upgrades are approved, Anaheim "will consider issuing bonds to pay for the improvements to the city-owned arena" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 3/22).
