Wheels & Deals: Ally Financial Becomes Sponsor Of Nashville Race

In Nashville, Mike Organ notes Ally Financial signed a multiyear deal to become the presenting sponsor for the first NASCAR Cup Series race that will be run at Nashville Superspeedway on June 20. The track is owned by Dover Motorsports, a company Ally already was associated with as a sponsor. In '20, Ally became the "primary sponsor of two of the main attractions" at Dover Int'l Speedway: Monster Monument at Victory Plaza and the Monster Bridge suite complex overlooking Turn 3 (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 1/20).

MARCO'S MISSES: RACER.com's Robin Miller notes Marco Andretti's decision to leave IndyCar as a full-time driver "caught everyone by surprise except maybe those closest to him." There had been rumors "that U.S. Concrete wasn’t coming back" as a primary sponsor of his No. 98 Honda, but no one "expected the bombshell that was dropped." It is likely both Marco and Andretti Autosport Owner Michael Andretti "were beating the bushes for sponsorship," but it became a "daunting task" to raise $4-5M. Miller: "Even with the Andretti name" (RACER.com, 1/20).

SHOT OF THE SOUTH: Stewart-Haas Racing is joining with Dixie Vodka for the '21 NASCAR Cup Series, naming it the official vodka of the racing team. Dixie Vodka also will be the primary sponsor of driver Cole Custer for two Cup races in '21. For all other races, Dixie Vodka will be an associate sponsor on the No. 41 Ford (THE DAILY).

JUST A NUMBER: NBCSPORTS.com's Chris Estrada noted in what is being "billed as his final Daytona 500 start," 62-year-old Derrike Cope will "drive the No. 15 Chevrolet for Rick Ware Racing with sponsorship from construction firm Jacob Companies." The team has a charter, "guaranteeing Cope a starting spot in the race" (NBCSPORTS.com, 1/19).
