TheScore Sees Gambling, Media Numbers Continue To Grow In Q1

TheScore reported "handle and media revenue were up" in Q1, but its "EBITDA loss deepened year-on-year," according to Chris Murphy of SBCAMERICAS.com. The Canada-based outlet's Founder & CEO John Levy told investors, “Our new fiscal year is off to a stellar start, including our best-ever quarter for media revenue, exponential handle growth on theScore Bet, and yet another record period for our esports operations." Murphy notes for the three months ending Nov. 30, year-on-year handle saw growth of 535% to C$55.8M. Media revenue was C$10.6M compared to C$9.2M for the same period last year, a "new all-time record." EBITDA loss was C$9.3M versus a C$4.8M loss for the same period last year, and theScore cited "additional expenses incurred in connection with the expansion of our gaming operations." Levy noted the firm's "expanding footprint in the North American sports betting market," adding after "successful recent launches in Colorado and Indiana, we’re on track to launch in Iowa in the coming weeks." TheScore's social sports content achieved an average monthly reach of 105 million, and its TikTok account added 573,000 new followers to now exceed 2.8 million (SBCAMERICAS.com, 1/14).
