NBA Franchise Notes: Hawks Delaying Date For Allowing Fans

In Atlanta, Sarah Spencer reports the Hawks now expect to open State Farm Arena for a limited number of fans on Jan. 26 instead of their MLK Day home game on Monday. The Hawks in a statement said that the move comes “out of an abundance of caution and in consultation with state and local health officials.” The team still plans “to open at 10% at that time, which amounts to about 1,700 fans” (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 1/12).

MISSING THE BUZZ: In Charlotte, Scott Fowler wrote the Hornets are “suddenly fun again” after having won four straight and being over .500 for the first time since '19, but the team is “playing in the shadows.” While COVID-19 has “knocked Charlotte out of having any fans at home games for the foreseeable future,” the ongoing carriage dispute between Dish and Sinclair (which owns FS Southeast) has taken the Hornets “off of a lot of people’s screens.” The blackout has “affected all those who have cut the cord the most” (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 1/11).
