NFL Franchise Notes: Eagles Could Still Move On From Doug Pederson

In Philadelphia, Jeff McLane cites sources as saying that Eagles coach Doug Pederson’s future "remains uncertain after an initial meeting" with team Owner Jeffrey Lurie "failed to settle issues about the direction of the team." Lurie and Pederson met Tuesday, and sources said that they are "expected to meet a second time early this week in Florida." Discussions between the two are "ongoing as Lurie continues to evaluate his coach of the last five seasons." Pederson initially was "believed to be returning and has remained in place long after most NFL coaches are typically fired following their teams’ last game" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 1/11).

ON THE PROWL: Jaguars Owner Shad Khan said that his goal is to hire the team's new GM and coach "around the same time, but that he’s not going to rush things." ESPN.com's Michael DiRocco reported Khan and Jaguars President Mark Lamping are "in charge of conducting interviews as they search for replacements" for former GM Dave Caldwell and coach Doug Marrone. Khan said, “You can’t have a mindset (of), 'This is a rebuild and it’s going to take time, etc.' We have to have a mindset (that) we’re building for the long haul, but you have to be able to win at the same time" (ESPN.com, 1/9).
