Lightning Hire Dave Randorf As New TV Play-By-Play Announcer

Veteran announcer Dave Randorf has been named the Lightning’s new play-by-play voice, and he will “work with in-game analyst Brian Engblom, Paul Kennedy, Dave Andreychuk, Bobby Taylor and Adam Hall on game nights" on FS Sun, according to Mari Faiello of the TAMPA BAY TIMES. Randorf replaces Rick Peckham, who "retired as the Lightning's play-by-play voice after 24 years following last season." Randorf has "more than 30 years of broadcasting experience, including the past six years at Canada's Sportsnet" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 1/8). THE ATHLETIC’s Joe Smith noted the Lightning “wanted to hire a broadcaster that would not only be talented, but also someone who could be part of the fabric of the fan base and the community, much like Peckham has been" over the past two-plus decades. The search was delayed by both the pandemic and the team’s run to the Stanley Cup. The Lightning “considered big-name candidates and under-the-radar hires,” including both NBC’s John Forslund and FS Prime Ticket’s John Ahlers, who previously was the Lightning’s radio voice (THEATHLETIC.com, 1/7).
