David Mulugheta Hopes His Success Will Inspire Black Sports Agents

Mulugheta reps 38 NFL players and has negotiated contracts totaling $1.5BDAVID MULUGHETA

Athletes First President of Team Sports David Mulugheta hopes his success -- punctuated by the record-breaking $105M deal he secured in September for Rams CB Jalen Ramsey -- "serves as inspiration for other young Black agents to make names for themselves," according to Emmanuel Morgan of the L.A. TIMES. The majority of NFL agents representing players are white, but Mulugheta has "broken through to become one of the industry's most powerful and influential agents." He reps 38 players and has negotiated contracts totaling $1.5B. Mulugheta said that he has "always felt more pressure to perform as a Black man." Early in his career, Mulugheta said that he "heard whispers from others that he didn't negotiate his own deals." But recently, he said that his "credibility and that of other Black agents has risen." Mulugheta has represented a first-round pick in each of the last eight NFL drafts. His success is "another steppingstone for those who look like him." He said, "The biggest part of the outward praise is now when another young Black male or female agent sits down in front of families, they won't automatically assume that this person doesn't have the qualities that a white agent may have" (L.A. TIMES, 12/3).
