People & Personalities: Golf Channel Dives Back Into Caddie Ranks

GOLFWEEK's Eamon Lynch reports longtime PGA Tour caddie John Wood is "joining Golf Channel as an on-course reporter." He also will work on "select NBC broadcasts and starts in the role at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii next month." Wood, who has caddied for Matt Kuchar, Mark Calcavecchia and Hunter Mahan, joins fellow former caddie Jim "Bones" McKay in the NBC/Golf Channel stable (GOLFWEEK.com, 12/2).

NEW VOICE IN TOWN: In Boston, Chad Finn noted NBC Sports Boston's Kyle Draper is "leaving" to become NBA Kings play-by-play announcer and host. Draper will "handle play-by-play duties alongside analyst Doug Christie when [Mark] Jones is on assignment for ESPN." Draper joined NBC Sports Boston in '09 as a SportsNet Central anchor. He began hosting Celtics studio programming during the '13-14 season. Draper also "occasionally filled in for Mike Gorman as the play-by-play voice" (BOSTON GLOBE, 12/1).

DOES TIME HEAL ALL WOUNDS? In Cincinnati, Paul Daugherty noted Thom Brennaman is "making the rounds some three months after ... using a slur during a Reds radio broadcast," and by "all accounts, Thom is making amends." His apologies "appear sincere, so do his interactions with those he offended." Daugherty: "I don’t know what else he can do beyond that, other than keep doing it and never stop. ... Forgiving is hard. It requires courage and a sizeable chunk of humanity. Thom has said he’s a better man for the experience. We all could be better for appreciating his journey" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 12/1).
