Browns' Top Pick Perfect Sidekick For Baker Mayfield's Progressive Ads

Rookie Browns OT Jedrick Wills landed a spot as QB Baker Mayfield’s sidekick for the “At Home With Baker Mayfield” campaign for Progressive Insurance thanks to his "availability, affordability, anonymity and relatability," according to Marla Ridenour of the AKRON BEACON JOURNAL. Progressive Business Leader/Creative Development Matt Dillon said, "We did reach out to Baker for suggestions. Our teams brainstormed current players, ex-players, radio/TV personalities, local Cleveland celebrities and ultimately we landed on Jedrick." Ridenour noted the wingman role "couldn’t be someone with the same level of notoriety as Mayfield." The spots were "shot the week before Browns training camp began in July." Wills, drafted 10th overall in April, said that when his agent, Nicole Lynn, presented the opportunity, his role was "seen as Mayfield’s protector, fitting for an insurance company." Dillon said that Progressive "normally needs a day or a day and a half to capture one to three spots." But when Mayfield and Wills went to the stadium, the crew "shot eight to 10, along with social media and digital content." He added that seven episodes of the Season 2 campaign have aired, "released every two to three weeks, and two more are possible." Dillon is "not sure about a Season 3 and whether Wills would be included" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 12/1).
