Daryl Morey, NFL Exec? 76ers President Admits Talking To Team

DARYL MOREY landed his job of 76ers President of Basketball Operations just days after leaving the Rockets, but he admitted he received a call during his brief time in between jobs from an unlikely source -- an NFL team. Morey did not identify the team during an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” but acknowledged it was for a GM position. Morey: “I told them I probably don’t know enough. … It would be very presumptive of me to think I could help an NFL team, but they did reach out. I figure my skills are just much higher and better in the NBA just with the experience and everything. It was an intriguing idea.” Morey added, “To be fair to them, they didn’t offer it. They just reached out to talk. They could have met with me and said, ‘That guy’s an idiot’ and moved on.” An unnamed baseball team also reached out to Morey, and he said, “I did work in baseball, so baseball would have been a better fit. Although honestly there are so many well-run teams, I was intimidated that I could actually help a baseball team. The last time I worked in baseball was 1996” (“The Rich Eisen Show,” Peacock, 11/23).
