New Angels GM Perry Minasian Recruits Former Braves Colleagues

The Angels named Braves Assistant GM ALEX TAMIN to the same role under new GM PERRY MINASIAN, DOMINIC CHITI Special Assistant to the GM and RICK WILLIAMS scout, all three of whom worked with Minasian in Atlanta, according to Jeff Fletcher of the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. Tamin spent the last three seasons "working as one of the top executives in the Braves baseball operations department" under Exec VP & GM ALEX ANTHOPOULOS, Minasian and Assistant GM JASON PARE (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 11/23). The REGISTER's Fletcher in a separate piece wrote in an era when players "sometimes grumble that executives see them as numbers or assets," Minasian "brings a different perspective." He grew up "working in major league clubhouses." Former Braves President of Baseball Operations JOHN HART initially hired Minasian, "seeking to add 'the human element' to a front office that was full of analytically bent executives." Hart said of Minasian, "Perry understands the values of analytics. Certainly there is enormous value in what the numbers tell you, but I think there is more to the game than scribbling numbers. Perry can play the numbers game with anybody, but there are other pieces to it as well" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 11/21).
