Austin FC Breaks Record For MLS Single-Day Jersey Sales

MLS expansion club Austin FC said that the club's first kit, released last Wednesday, "broke a 24-hour sales record for an inaugural jersey launch on MLSStore.com," according to Chris Bils of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN. Austin FC President Andy Loughnane said that the club "outsold all previous expansion teams' first-day jersey sales 'by a wide margin,'" though exact figures were not disclosed. The new kit also "exceeded 24-hour sales for all existing MLS clubs" in '20. The record "includes only jerseys sold through the team's website and the league's online merchandise store." There also were "long lines around town at select locations where fans could purchase jerseys and team apparel out of what the team is calling the Verde Van, and at Yeti stores downtown and at the Domain" shopping center (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 11/21).
