CBS Gains Rights To Formula E, Will Air Two Races On Broadcast Net

CBS’ motorsports portfolio is growing with the acquisition of Formula E electric car racing, which is switching over this upcoming season from Fox Sports. The deal was announced today and terms were not revealed aside from the pact being for multiple years. CBS’ broadcast network will air at least two of the 14 races for the upcoming ’21 season as part of the multiyear deal. Six races will be on CBS Sports Network, with the rest (plus qualifying sessions) streamed on digital platforms. For CBS, this builds upon its acquisition earlier this year of the forthcoming Superstar Racing Experience racing series, which starts next season. Though Formula E is leaving Fox Sports, the company is still slated to air the new sister series, the Extreme E SUV racing series, starting next year. Formula E, which counts a race in Brooklyn's Red Hook district as its only U.S. event, will begin its seventh season in Santiago, Chile, in January. The series has been able to build up an impressive array of manufacturers because car companies around the world want to develop and market electric cars.
