Media Notes

VARIETY's Dave McNary noted the Int'l Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees has "accused the Golf Channel of not providing regular COVID-19 testing for crews responsible for broadcasting portions of the PGA and LPGA Tour, leading to 'multiple infections.'" The below-the-line union said that while players and caddies have received rapid COVID tests prior to events, Golf Channel's behind-the-scenes workforce is "not afforded this same benefit." The union said that the "lack of testing has led to multiple infections among broadcast crews whose work requires substantial travel between locations and whose craft does not always allow for social distancing." A Golf Channel spokesperson "denied the claims" (VARIETY.com, 11/17).

DEFYING GRAVITY: In Chicago, Phil Rosenthal reports even when the Bears are "terrible," they manage to "draw a TV audience." The team's fourth successive defeat on "MNF" against the Vikings averaged a 24.0 rating in Chicago between ESPN and WCIU-TV. That represents "roughly 833,000 households." The Bears' previous "MNF" appearance this season, an Oct. 29 road loss to the Rams on ESPN and WLS-TV, averaged a 26.9 rating locally. Most Chicago-area viewers who watched Monday's Vikings-Bears game did so on ESPN, which averaged a 14.7 rating. WCIU-TV averaged a 9.3 (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 11/18).
