Molly Solomon said Las Vegas will be the distribution point for its various remote Olympic feedsGETTY IMAGES

NBC Exec Producer and President of Olympics Production Molly Solomon said the net will travel to Tokyo this summer with a much smaller contingent because of social distancing guidelines. Before the pandemic, NBC was planning to send around 2,000 people to Tokyo to cover the Olympics, and it also expected to have around 1,000 staffers set up in its Stamford, Conn., office. Solomon said, "A couple hundred less people will probably be on the ground in Tokyo and based here or at one of our international hubs." In addition to having people set up in Tokyo and Stamford, NBC will produce the Olympics out of Sky Sports in London, Telemundo in Miami and CNBC in New Jersey, plus of course 30 Rock in New York. Solomon said Las Vegas will be the distribution point for its feeds. NBC has a long history of producing the Olympics remotely, as far back as the '08 Beijing Games. Solomon said the development of remote production capabilities has accelerated as much as five to 10 years in the past eight months. But she also said the history of the Olympic productions relying on remote productions will make the transitions easier next summer during the delayed Tokyo Games.
