Aaron Rodgers Says NFL's COVID Policies "Don't Add Up"

Rodgers said the league and union have done a good job laying out guidelines for how to finish the seasonGETTY IMAGES

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said that he "sees double standards in the safety protocols the NFL has instituted as it tries to complete a season amid the coronavirus pandemic," according to the AP. Rodgers on SiriusXM's "The Pat McAfee Show" said, "You can go down to practice and hit each other and be in close contact, but you have to have Plexiglas between you and the guy next to you in the locker room. I just think some of those things to me really don't add up." He added "some of it is definitely for the optics of it, some of it probably based on science, but it's definitely changed the season for sure." Rodgers during a Zoom conference with Packers reporters yesterday said, "I think the NFL and PA talking about the protocols, I think have done a nice job of setting good guidelines on how we can try to get to the end of the season. Obviously, we had some games moved and canceled but that we got eight games in, I think, is a win. Now we've got to get to the end of the season" (AP, 11/12).

CHIEFS CALL FOR INVESTIGATION: ESPN.com's Adam Schefter reported the Chiefs "asked the NFL to begin an inquiry with the players' association after a union representative held a meeting with the full team late in October without wearing a mask." A source said that the NFLPA rep was "in proximity while meeting with the players," adding that the union rep is "not subject to the same COVID-19 testing as players and regularly travels among the teams." The Chiefs have had a "handful of players on the NFL's reserve/COVID-19 list this season," the latest being WR Mecole Hardman, who was placed on the list yesterday (ESPN.com, 11/11).

NO PENALTIES AGAINST 49ERS: In S.F., Eric Branch cites a source as saying that the NFL and the NFLPA found the 49ers’ players and employees "were in compliance after examining their virus protocols." No further action will be taken against the team. The investigation "involved all aspects of the team’s protocols, but looked specifically" into whether members of the organization and WR Kendrick Bourne were properly wearing face coverings (S.F. CHRONICLE, 11/12).
